 ABOUT  DEPARTMENT

The Department of Mathematics was established in the year 1999 as one of the subjects at the degree level with Physics, Statistics, Electronics and Computer Science combination. Electronics is introduced in the college in the year 2003 as one of the subjects in U.G with Mathematics & Computer Science combination. M.Sc(Mathematics) (PG Course) was introduced in July  2005. The Department consists of a versatile combination of senior experienced faculty and active young faculty. Mathematics is the parent subject for Physical Sciences and it’s like a backbone for technological advancement in today’s world. Therefore great care is taken to explain the subject matter in such a way that, even an average student is able to understand it. The learning process is conducted in a manner which interests students and opens their minds to explorations in the subject. The Department also aims to instill in each student a capability to solve meaningful problems in the service of humanity.

The first batch of B.Sc(Mathematics) passed out in April 2002..  The faculty always tries to enrich the students by adopting various teaching and learning methodologies. For the practical subjects our department organizes different guest lecturers of eminent personalities from professional fields as well as from corporate fields. We have strong alumni who are presently working at different positions in reputed sectors like Software, Banks and Business etc. We focus on overall development of our students and hence we encourage them to take part in various co-curricular and extracurricular activities like NSS, cultural events and also in various college level and University level competitions. We follow the practice of Industrial and field visits for U.G and P.G students for practical and project work. For our average students we conduct remedial teaching and the progress of our students is observed through mentor and mentee. We conduct bridge course for the students who come from different functions like Yoga, Tax, Self employment etc. Our departments has prominent faculty with very good academic record. One of our faculty has completed their Ph.D and all faculty members have completed professional degree of B.Ed. One of our faculties has completed APSET. Dr C Somasekhar Reddy. The faculty always tries to enrich the students by adopting various teaching and learning methodologies. The faculty has been adequate, competent, enthusiastic and committed to train the students in the core areas of Computer Science. It is a matter of pride that momentous number of students confidently competed with the technical peers and got through selections (campus & off-campus) for Mahindra Satyam Computer Services Ltd., Wipro Academy of Software Excellence (WASE),Wipro Software Technology Academy(WISTA) Infosys, IBM, TCS, CTS, InfoTech Enterprise Ltd,  Tech. Mahindra and Aditya Software Solutions etc., in last 25 years.

The department caters to the academic needs of over 1700 learners from six different combinations viz., B.Sc., Mathematics, Physics, Computer science (MPCs - from 1999-2000), Mathematics, Statistics, Computer science (MSCs – from 1999-2000), Mathematics, Electronics, Computer science (MECs - from 2003-04), B.Com., Computer Applications (from 1999-2000), BBA (from 1999-2000) and Biotechnology-Microbiology-Chemistry (from 1999-2000). The admission of students to these courses has been purely on the basis of merit in the qualifying examination. The students come both from the rural and urban areas. The majority of students who hail from the rural areas are with Telugu medium and English Medium backgrounds. The ratio of boys and girls is 40:60. The language skills and basic domain knowledge vary according to the background of the learner. From 2020-2021, the admission of students is through OAMDC.

College adopted CBCS from the academic year 2015-2016 as per the guidelines of UGC. CBCS provides an opportunity for the students to choose courses from the prescribed core, elective/minor or skill based courses. CBCS will bring uniformity in evaluation system. The student’s performance in examinations will be evaluated on a 10 point scale of Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) based on UGC guidelines. The department offering two skill enhancement courses one for core students and the other for non-computer students. From the academic year 2017- 18, cluster electives included in CBCS frame as per the guidelines of APSCHE, which allows a student to choose three papers from the domain of their own interest. The department has introduced cluster elective papers as per the industrial requirements. From the academic year 2021-21, the department adopted the revised CBCS curriculum with necessary modifications.

The teachers of the department for all-time involve actively in improving presentation and improving skills of students through seminars, group discussions.code contests and quiz competitions etc.,. Micro Biology

The department of Microbiology was established in the year 2003. Our college is the affiliated to Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Anantapur to offer Microbiology as a self-funding course at the UG level with Biotechnology and Chemistry combination. At present the Department is offering B.Sc., with the following combination.

 B. Sc: Microbiology- Biotechnology-Chemistry

The Department caters to the academic needs of about 200 students of I, II & III Year UG Courses. The students come both from rural and urban areas. The department is provided with a well-furnished staff room, three classrooms and one laboratory. Besides the regular lecture methods, the Department at present is also making use of computer, CDs related to subject topics, seminar hall for guest lectures, OHP, LCD Projector, magazines and journals for the purpose of widening the subject knowledge of the students. The pass percentage of the students has been above 90 on an average. The progression of the students has also been excellent. The percentage of students who reach the universities is around 70 and those who reach the level of M.Phil., or Ph.D., is around 5. This is all because of the semester system and also the hard work of the teachers which enabled the students to be thorough with the prescribed syllabus and prepare well for internal tests and semester-end examinations. The department also constantly monitors the progress of the students by getting feedback from them with regard to the curriculum teaching-learning-evaluation. Apart from the regular classroom teaching, use of computers and OHPs, encouraging the students to participate in group discussions, panel discussions and seminars along with teachers, are the healthy practices of the department. The students are advised to prepare charts and models. Simple science projects are assigned to students to improve their scientific temper. The faculty regularly conducts seminars, guest lectures, group discussions, quiz programmes for the benefit of the students. Remedial classes are conducted for the slow-learners identified by the faculty. It also involves students in basic research projects, takes them to research institutes as beyond syllabus scholarly activities.

VISION:

The vision of the department is going towards international excellence to be recognized as preeminence department with quality education, innovative research, and service emphases.  It gives an opportunity for hands on training in various applied aspects of the disciplines like analysis of food samples, clinical samples, isolation and identification of microorganisms, their cultivation and preservation etc.

MISSION:

The mission of the Department of Microbiology is to provide a conducive learning environment and a student-friendly atmosphere that allows students to achieve academic excellence in all aspects of Microbiology.  It is also to produce skilled graduates who can choose research fields or professional career as microbiologist in various industries.
